Franco Fortini Interdepartmental Research Center in "History of Cultural Tradition in the Twentieth Century"

Founded in 1995, the Center was established following the donation of Franco Fortini's library and private archive to the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy at the University of Siena. The archive includes letters, manuscripts, drawings, and paintings.

The Center's bylaw not only provide for the preservation of these documents, which are cataloged in OneSearch, but also for the promotion of scientific and cultural initiatives that enhance their value and place them in a contemporary context. To this end, in addition to curating Fortini's work and studying his material and cultural legacy, the Center aims to:

  • coordinate studies and research on the documentary and archival heritage of the Humanities Library of the University of Siena (including the Fortini Collection, as well as the collections of Bellosi, Bianchi Bandinelli, Bordini, Landolfi, and Parronchi).
  • develop research projects on the literary, artistic, and cultural tradition of the 20th century;
  • organize conferences, scientific seminars, training and refresher courses, and exhibitions;
  • collaborate with the humanities departments of the University of Siena and national and international academic and research institutions;
  • produce editions and research tools in print and digital formats: the Center publishes two scientific journals, L'ospite ingrato and L'ospite ingrato online, as well as a series of books.
